In the article, the forms of students’ independent work is designed. For the purposes of its successful implementation the author has developed a technology of management of the extracurricular independent work of the students in the framework of performance of the course and degree projects taking into account the regional features of production development.

Independent work of students, along with classroom work, is one of the forms of the educational process and is an essential part of it. For its successful implementation, planning and control by teachers, as well as planning the volume of independent work in the curriculum of specialties by the profiling departments, the educational part, and the methodological services of the educational institution are necessary.

Out-of-class independent work of students is intended not only for mastering each discipline, but also for developing the skills of independent work in general, in educational, scientific, professional activities, the ability to take responsibility, independently solve a problem, find constructive solutions, find a way out of a crisis situation, etc. etc.

In view of the presence of various types of independent work in the educational process, the author limited himself to developing a technology for guiding students’ extracurricular independent work in the process of completing course and diploma projects, taking into account the analysis of regional features of production development.

By independent project activity, the author understands the mastery by students of knowledge, skills and design experience.

Course design is one of the forms of students' independent work. In the educational process, course design is assigned the main role in the development of students of technical specialties competence in the process of project activities. Course design is applied at the final stage of studying a subject, the result is a written course project.

The knowledge gained in lectures, practical classes and in the process of performing laboratory work is integrated in the course design process. In the course design classes, students solve educational and professional problems of various types, which allows them to gain partial experience of the upcoming project activities. Thanks to this approach, the foundations are laid for the competence of future specialists, which they need in production design.

The course project is carried out during the semester along with other educational work, which requires students to be able to organize their work and plan their activities. In this regard, it becomes necessary to stage-by-stage work on the course project. The stages of work are determined by the project manager depending on the scope and content of the assignment. The head of the course design distributes the topics of the course design, issues assignments and sets out the basic requirements that should be met, determines the deadlines for the delivery and defense of the course project, recommends a list of references and sets the scope of the project.

The content and level of complexity of the course project are determined not only by the qualification requirements of the State Educational Standard of Higher Professional Education, but also according to the principle of professional mobility, taking into account the requirements of the regional production system.

For the successful development of students' competence in project activities, course and diploma projects should be carried out according to an individual task, which has the character of an educational and professional task of an integrative type. When developing an educational and professional task of this type, it is necessary to strive to use the values and parameters of a specific production or enterprise. The data necessary for the implementation of the course and diploma project are collected by students during the period of industrial and pre-diploma practice, the place of passing which is determined taking into account the wishes of the students.

Information about the geographical location of consumers, their number, as well as the characteristics and name of the industry are given individually to each student, depending on the degree of his preparedness. Successful students are offered a more challenging option that involves making creative decisions.

An educational and professional task of an integrative type is a complex task and includes the preparation of an explanatory note and graphic material.
