The understanding of the mass character of cultural phenomena and the laws of their distribution in postmodernism leads to the idea of a specific way of functioning of mass culture and culture as a "culture of information", determined by the direct influence of the media on the format of the final cultural products, where only what is legal and passable is replicable. However, the reproduction of copies of art among the General public, leads to the destruction of catharsis, opening a new era in the "sensory perception", due to the development of modern technologies allowing mechanical reproduction of cultural artifacts. The article shows that the transformation of signs into simulacra, observed in the mass culture of post - industrial society, the growing emancipation of codes from referents, is actually not as harmless semiotic phenomenon, what we are trying to present it, as what is happening dramatically affects the structure of the worldview and the system of human values.
Culture, mass culture, replication, copy, simulacrum, sign, postmodern
