The article announces the creative activity of the German maestro Fred Buttkevits and his author’s techniques in managing the orchestra developed during many years of his performing and pedagogical work. Based on generalization of his own experience with the use of specific techniques of his colleagues - the contemporaries and predecessors, it enriches the ideas about the job of an opera and symphony conductor in relation to our realities. The narration takes place at the background of the panorama of European musical life of the XIXth-XXth.
