Tseren-Dordzhi Nominkhanov is a well-known orientalist, the first doctor of philology in Kalmykia, who in some years worked in different regions of our country and in Mongolia. Among the scientific and educational institutions in which the scientist had to work were the Communist University of the Workers of the East and the Institute of Oriental Studies (Moscow), the Kalmyk Pedagogical College (in 1931 it was located in Astrakhan), the Central Asian State University and the Uzbek branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (Tashkent), the Scientific Committee of the MPR (Ulaanbaatar), Khakass Scientific Research Institute of Language, Literature and History (Abakan), Kazakh State University and Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR (Almaty), Kalmyk Khakass Scientific Research Institute of Language, Literature and History (Elista). Ts.-D. Nominkhanov conducted the first scientific expeditions in Mongolia in the direction and according to the tasks set by his teacher, Professor B.Ya. Vladimirtsov, in 1924-1926 and 1928-1929, and in different periods of his scientific activity, the scientist was engaged in collecting ethnographic, folklore, linguistic materials that were deposited in the archives of Russia. The largest collection of the scientist in terms of the number of storage units is located in the Scientific Archive of the Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The purpose of the article is to examine the composition of folklore materials on the Mongolian peoples in this fund and compare them with materials from other archives. In the first part of the article, the composition of folklore materials contained in the personal fund of Ts.-D. Nominkhanov in the Scientific Archive of the Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences was presented. The second part presents a comparative analysis of the materials collected by the scientist and stored in different archives of Russia and Mongolia. The materials recorded among the Derbets of Mongolia, the Don and Bolshederbet Kalmyks in the 1920s, among the Xinjiang Oirats in the 1930s, survived deportation together with the researcher. After returning to his homeland, Ts.-D. Nominkhanov transferred the materials he had carefully preserved during difficult periods of his life, systematized and rewritten by him personally in accordance with the new spelling, previously written in Latin, to the archive of the Kalmyk Scientific Research Institute of Language, Literature and Histor
