The article discusses the reception of Russian classical literature (A.S. Pushkin, F.M. Dostoevsky, A.P. Chekhov) in China. Drawing on the research of Soviet philologist Mark Schneider and modern Chinese translator of Russian literature Liu Wenfei, the author identifies such distinctive features of the Chinese understanding of the Russian literature as the sympathy to the moral intents of the Russian writers’ works, positive attitude towards the use of colloquial language in Russian literature, the discovery of the heightened emotional feelings as a new way of perceiving literature and ambiguous attitude to the topic of inner world of people.
