In the article historical changing forms of furniture are described. Furniture (Fr. meuble от лат. mobilis - подвижный) - room setting. As a rule, pieces of furniture are classified according to the function: for sleeping, for working, for cooking and for eating. According to its function pieces of furniture are divided into three groups. The first group is cupboards (wardrobe, kitchen cupboard, bookcase, for general use etc.) Chests of drawers, cabinet bases, writing cabinets, china-cupboards, chests and shelves are also associated with the group. The second group consists of pieces for seating and sleeping; beds, sofas, chaises longue, ottomans, as well as chairs, stools, banquettes, benches, etc. The third group includes the pieces with working surface - all kinds of tables (writing desks, wine tables, dining table, toilet table etc.). In XX convertible furniture has become quite popular; convertible sofa, chair-beds, all kinds of recessed beds, telescoping beds.
