Media environment set in motion: the prospects for media education in a digital economy

The digital economy is the Russian name for a phenomenon known in the world as the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Creating a digital economy is one of the priorities of the national policy for the next decade. The predicted significant change in the media environment poses new challenges for media education. Its new format implies knowledge of future scenarios and key technologies, as well as the formation at the mass level of the skill of recognizing the qualitative specificity of the information environment (“understanding media”). Since 2017, the Department of Media Education at the Institute of Journalism, Communications and Media Education of the Moscow State Pedagogical University has been engaged in the theory and practice of media education transformation in the digital economy. This work is a priority for the department and will continue.
