Medical terms in non-specialized literature

Бесплатный доступ

The article is devoted to the functioning of medical terms in literary texts. A wide spread of medical terms in oral and written non-specialized speech is revealed. The article identifies two groups of terms: in the direct meaning and in the figurative meaning, provides a justification for the values. Terms in the direct meaning are used with the interpretation of the term and without explanation. Two ways of creating expressive and emotional coloring are defined: morphological and syntactic. It is proved that medical terms of literary texts indicate their semantic transformation: from nominative use in order to create a professional color through a metaphor that changes the semantic structure of the term to determinologization. The use of medical terms helps to enrich the language of artistic works with professional words, they convey the psychological state of the hero (the patient and the doctor) during the treatment process, and also characterize the doctor as a specialist.
