Based on previously unknown documents at the archives of Yaroslavl the article analyses some aspects of the medical community’s work and life during the Great Patriotic War in Yaroslav Region. The author focuses on political attitudes and criminal activities which have not been stydied until now by historians, such as “anti-Soviet” acts which were investigated by state security bodies as well as violation of labour discipline, official misconduct and crimes committed by medics of Yaroslavl. The author gives a detailed account of instances of medics’ aiding Red Army soldiers and workers in self-mutilation, excess and misuse of power, neglecting patients. The analysis of the archival documents leads to the conclusion that many “anti-Soviet activity” cases of Yaroslavl medics were falsified by state security bodies. Alongside with that, discipline violation and crimes committed by Yaroslavl doctors were caused by hard living conditions and the morals of the war time.
