The article considers the concept of organizational culture and its main characteristics. The role of organizational culture in the activity of a modern enterprise, its purpose and functions is shown. The mechanism of formation of organizational culture consisting of 6 stages is offered. The characteristics of the organizational culture that allow to establish their values for both the analyzed and the future organizational culture are determined. A test was developed to determine the characteristics. A method is proposed for establishing mismatches between the characteristics of the existing and desirable organizational culture. An example of the use of the proposed mechanism for the formation of organizational culture at one of the machine-building enterprises.
