Memorial culture: from category to phenomenon

He article is devoted to the conceptualisation of the phenomenon of memorial culture from several perspectives. Firstly, it is terminological, which makes it possible to limit the semantic field of the term “memorial culture”. This seems to be quite important, because at present in both Russian and foreign research practice, the concept of memorial culture is used either without a clear definition of its content, or is substituted by close, but not synonymous concepts (memory policy, historical policy, culture of memory, etc.). The second, substantive angle is related to the disclosure of the essential features of remembrance culture, including retrospectivity, publicity, syntheticity, mediativeness, reproducibility, ritualization, presentability, and processivity.
