The purpose of the study is to consider the main ways of metabolism of various compounds by microorganisms for their joint cultivation in order to create on their basis a biological consortium effective in relation to wastewater pollutants. This article discusses the possibility of creating synthetic consortia based on the analysis of the chemical composition of wastewater, the main metabolic pathways, the growth conditions and symbiotic relationships of microorganisms with activity in relation to certain groups of pollutants, which will allow solving specific problems in the field of wastewater treatment. Based on the analysis of the literature, the conditions and the main metabolic pathways of the microorganism’s cultures, their symbiotic relationships, an ecological metabolism scheme was developed for the disposal of the main pollutants of model wastewater to the final products: ammonia, carbon dioxide, phosphoric acid residues, nitrite anion, sulfur or hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen, methane and acetate. The possibility of creating a synthetic consortium for solving specific problems in the field of wastewater treatment is shown.
