The article deals with “The observation, made during travelling over the Southern viceroyalty in 1973-1974” by P.S. Pallas from the perspective of metaphilology as the reflection of the general philological issues of his work. In line with the ethnographic data, the work of the scientist contains a rich lexicographical material, presenting an important element of the national cultural and historical code.
