The article reveals the most frequent semantic types of metaphors during the explication of the “joy” concept based on the Russian and German fiction texts of the XIX-XX centuries, that include the anthropomorphical and light metaphors in Russian and German languages. There are defined the cognitive criteria of the concept expressed by a metaphor.
