The article describes the methodological foundations of speech development, which shapes the type of speech activity of students in literature lessons. Modern education in secondary vocational schools requires students to develop the ability to realize themselves in a new social environment and adapt to various life situations. The work notes the importance of developing communicative competence, which is the expansion and deepening of language and linguistic competence, their inextricable unity. In particular, the main methods related to the development of speech in literature lessons are presented.
