This article examines the most effective methodological approaches to the formation and development of functional literacy when integrating environmental education into the school geography course. Since the task of a modern teacher is not only to lay the foundation of knowledge, but also to form the skills to apply the acquired knowledge in real-life situations, this fact determines the importance of developing functional literacy of schoolchildren, and the integration of ecology and geography is an effective tool for forming a holistic picture of the world, perception of processes and phenomena in nature. The article examines the developments of the authors, and identifies the sequence of steps in the implementation of tasks for the formation of functional literacy. The results of the study were the identification of promising areas of integration in the task of developing functional literacy of students.
