The importance of the research is determined by the requirements of the society to the system of higher education to prepare the specialists of a new type. These requirements are reflected in the Federal law «On Education», in the Concept of Modernization of Russian Education, in the Concept of Continuous Education. These normative documents guide professional education to train the qualified specialists with a high level of competence, competitiveness, mobility, autonomy, ability to make responsible decisions, ready for continuous professional self-improvement. To adapt to rapidly changing conditions of modern manufacture the main task nowadays is to form professional thinking, to develop key competences, to teach students to think creatively, to be able to apply professional knowledge and educate themselves. However, the analysis of the research results indicates that the level of formation of skills of independent educational-professional activity of students does not fully correspond to modern requirements.
