In order to study the formation of the grammatical component of speech competence in children 6-6.5 years with a delay in the mental development of cerebral organic genesis, a technique has been developed. At present, the problems of diagnostics of the state of the grammatical component of the speech competence of this category of children are insufficiently studied. The authors consider speech skills and abilities of preschool children with mental retardation. However, speech skills and speech competence are not synonymous concepts. In the structure of the grammatical component of preschool children's speech competence the author identifies the inflection, word formation and syntactic skills at the practical level. Methods of studying the grammatical component of speech competence of preschool children with mental retardation: interviews, testing and observation.
