The methodology of teaching listening using the example of learning English

As is known, the skill of listening is formed over a long period of time, and it is necessary to train it constantly. The article shows the historical path of the term “listening”, states that this type of speech activity presents significant difficulties for Russian-speaking bilinguals learning English. Based on the conducted sociological survey (questionnaire), the reasons for the reluctance and uncertainty of students to work with audio materials were determined, the types of audio tasks were analyzed, the most difficult to perceive (presented on the Language Hub platform of Macmillan Publishing House) were identified, and typical mistakes in working with audio texts were noted. It has been concluded that the main goal of learning English or any other foreign language is to learn to understand the language by ear. This is facilitated by a variety of audio materials, different types of exercises and teaching methods, as well as an individual approach to each student, which ultimately improves language proficiency.
