The study of the “troubled days” of the Civil War in Russia, the events that preceded them, and the individuals who personifi ed this era, is an important task for historical science, which is conducting a dialectical dialogue and rearranging the existing emphases in examining the plots of the fratricidal clash of 1918-1922 into the correct plane. Such a pluralistic nature of opinions and the degree of intensity of discussion of the designated topic force us to seek different approaches to its consideration. The author highlights various methodological approaches to the analysis of the activities of Alexander Vasilyevich Kolchak in August 1914 - February 1920. Admiral A.V. Kolchak was one of the most prominent and striking fi gures of this period. His personality and the events associated with him appear to be largely ambiguous and contradictory, so in a comprehensive study and reconstruction of his activities it is important to consider the entire set of methodological approaches, principles and methods. In revealing the problem under consideration, the author took into account various methodological approaches, as well as the specifi cs of the study of historical fi gures.
