The article examines the process of the formation of Russian poetic translation of Kyrgyzstan from the point of view of the methodology of literary translation and historical development of Kyrgyz professional literature. The most productive and important period in this process is the 1920-1940s. Attention is focused on the practice of translation activities of E. Polivanov, S. Lipkin, M. Tarlovsky, L. Penkovsky, and other theorists and practitioners of translation, who laid the basic principles of translation of folk epic works. The study highlights the paths of translation development that determined the methodological basis for the formation of Russian-language translation in Kyrgyzstan. The authors highlight various historical and cultural phenomena that had a significant impact on the development of national literature, which in the 1920s was in the phase of its inception and development in subsequent years. Researchers believe it is important to highlight each vector of phenomena that became basic in the process of development. This includes congresses of scientists and teachers, held with varying cyclicity, where various resolutions were adopted on pressing problems of a philological nature; periodicals in local newspapers, which showed the practical experiences of writers, poets, and translators; and the first attempts to organize an association of writers, which was later transformed into a union of a republican scale. The article also examines translation from interlinear translation as the dominant method of translators, which functioned in translation studies in Kyrgyzstan until 1980. These trends in historical development in the context of translation accompany the process of national literature reaching the level of consolidated relations between the cultures of the Soviet countries of that time.
