The multidimensionality and multidimensionality of the phenomenon of population migration suggest the need for its comprehensive study based on system analysis and integration of various disciplinary approaches. The author provides an overview of interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological developments reflecting fundamental migration laws and patterns: laws of migration by E.G. Ravenstein; V.I. Lenin's concept of migration mobility of the population; the concept of “mobile transition” by V. Zelinsky; the concept of three -stage migration process by L.L. Rybakovsky and T.I. Zaslavskaya; scientific field of “migrationology” by M.B. Denisenko, V.A. Iontsev and B.S. Khorev; universal (synthetic) theory of migration by D. Massey. The author notes the need for researchers to strive to level conceptual differences, which contributes to a holistic and multifaceted understanding of the phenomenon of migration. The migration approach itself indicated in the work acts as a means of ensuring and updating the process of interdisciplinary integration.
