The article deals with the elements of the plot, characters and motives of folk fairy-tales and hagiographic traditions as a mythopoetic origin of S.V. Kovalevskaya’s story "Nihilist" (1884). It allows her to implement the ideas of sacrifice and moral heroism as cultural values of the second half of the 19th century.
