The article reviews the works of Buryat writers on historical theme, written in different genres, but the main plot is the development of hero's personality in a symbolic and mythological manner. We have analyzed the works devoted to different periods of national history and united by a common mystery plot - the ability of a historical personality to fulfill his high destiny. In the novel "Temujin" by A. Gatapov and the poem "Song of Dorzhi Banzarov" by N. Damdinov we can trace the transition of young heroes to the personalities capable of discovering the existential essence of empirical events. The connection of mythological imagery and mystery is reflected in the archetypal image of the child. The heroines of the tragedy "The Great Shaman Sister" by B. Baradin and the drama "Balzhin-Khatan" by D. Erdyneev embody the archetype of the Great Mother, they also see their destiny in the salvation and prosperity of their people. It is concluded that the mystery plot in Buryat literature allows elevating the life and destiny of the individual to a metaphysical generalization, presenting the true self-determination of a historical figure who feels a connection with the future of his people and eternity.
