The evolution and modification of the science fiction novel in France, examined from a diachronic perspective, reveals a complex interplay between literary traditions, socio-political contexts, and evolving technological progress. This is not a linear progression, but rather a ramified narrative characterized by periods of flourishing, decline, and renewed interest in the genre. This article undertakes to trace the genesis and modification of the French science fiction novel in a diachronic dimension, acknowledging its multi-generic nature and intertextuality. The study investigates the evolution of the science fiction novel genre in France, from its classical roots to contemporary trends. It analyzes key stages in the genre’s development, identifies the factors influencing its modification, and examines the main thematic and stylistic features of French science fiction. Particular attention is paid to the influence of philosophical, social, and political contexts on the formation of the genre, as well as the interaction of science fiction with other literary movements. Based on an analysis of the works of key authors, the main trends in the modification of the genre in France are identified, such as increased social criticism, philosophical reflection on technological progress, and experimentation with form and narrative. The article offers a fresh perspective on the evolution of French science fiction and its contribution to the global literary process. The study provides concrete examples of the work of French authors who contributed to its origins and development. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that, for the first time in Russia, the genre of French science fiction is considered as a cultural and historical phenomenon, and a ramified system of its subgenres is identified. Particular attention is paid to genre eclecticism, tracing the origins of the science fiction novel, examining the emergence of scientifi c-miraculous fiction in France, highlighting the main milestones in the formation and development of this genre in France, providing an overview of some contemporary works of the genre under study, as well as defining the main thematic and genre-stylistic features of the French science fiction novel.
