Monastic charter and Jesus prayer

Article is devoted to the question of relation of the Monastic Charter with the practice of Jesus prayer. Relevance of a subject is related with a bigger issue of the succession of monastic tradition in modern conditions. To support a statement “Jesus prayer is a soul of Charter” the method of triunity, unity of command and goal-setting was applied. Based on statements of ancient and modern ascetics trias of concept are formed, which allows compare different consuetudinary with stages of spiritual advance and ways of prayer. The plays and value of Jesus prayer in a church service and disciplinary parts of a statute. The problem of spiritual advance in modern coenoby (Pachomian monasteries) is stated. The conclusion about closest connection between consuetudinary and Jesus prayer is drawn as well as about possibilities of spiritual advance based in principles of cenobitic statute. This article was originally presented in the form of a report at the II monastic conference, which was organized by the Historical Society of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy and was held on March 29, 2018.
