The monitoring studies of education problems as a phenomenon in pedagogy and education management are discussed. It is noted that the concept of «monitoring» is ambiguously perceived by teachers. This fact forced the authors to specify, systematize and clarify the concept of «monitoring» in more detail according to its goals, objectives, principles, functions and features of development.
