MOOCs and Online Courses as Tools for Digital Education

Examines current trends in the digitalization of education and the role of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in shaping the modern educational environment. The development of information and communication technologies, expanded Internet access, and the growing need for lifelong learning contribute to the active integration of online courses into educational systems at various levels. MOOCs are becoming an important tool in digital education, providing accessibility, flexibility, and individualized learning opportunities. Research objectives: The purpose of the study is to analyze the possibilities of using MOOCs and online courses in the educational process, as well as to identify their advantages, limitations, and prospects for further development. The paper discusses the main characteristics of online learning, the functioning of major educational platforms, and the impact of digital technologies on the organization of the educational process. The study employed theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific literature devoted to issues of education digitalization, the application of MOOCs, and online learning in the modern educational environment. Domestic and foreign scientific publications, regulatory documents, and materials from international educational platforms were analyzed. The use of MOOCs contributes to expanding educational opportunities for various categories of learners regardless of their age, social status, or geographical location. Online courses allow learners to independently choose the pace of study, gain access to modern educational materials, and create individualized learning pathways. The conducted analysis demonstrates that MOOCs and online courses represent an important direction in the modernization of contemporary education and play a significant role in the development of the lifelong learning concept. Their further improvement is associated with the implementation of interactive technologies, personalization of the educational process, and integration of digital platforms into the traditional education system.
