Morphofunctional properties of udder of first-calf cows of different constitutional types of Caucasian brown breed in mountainous zone of Dagestan

The paper evaluates the udder of first-calf cows of milk-meat and meat - milk constitutional types of Caucasian brown breed bred in the mountainous zone of Dagestan according to morphological and functional properties. The conducted studies found that animals of the dairy-meat type had the desired cup-shaped and tub-shaped udder shape of 86.7 % of first-calf cows, which is 40.1 % more than meat - dairy peers. According to the most important udder measurements, the first heifers of the dairy-meat type met the requirements of the suitability of cows for machine milking. Thus, in terms of udder girth, they surpassed their peers of the meat-and-milk type by 3.4 cm (P
