Detailed characteristics of gastric mucosa of intact outbred white rat widely used by Russian investigators for experimental purposes was given using modern histological, histochemical, immunohistochemical techniques. Normal distribution of mucin MUC 5AC in gastric mucosa of intact animals was characterized, proliferation index (PI) and apoptosis index (AI) in epithelial cells of gastric mucosa were established on the basis of proapoptotic protein Fas ligand expression and regular protein Ki-67 expression
