The article analyzes the main idea of V. N. Ilyin's morphology in relation to the study of Russian culture on the example of the works "Russian Music" and "Russian Philosophy". It is noted that V. N. Ilyin demonstrated a personal approach to the study of Russian culture, presenting the concept of “discontinuous polyperiodism”. An important addition to Ilyin's research on the history of Russian music and philosophy is his work on Russian literature. According to Ilyin, the biographies and works of K. N. Leontyev and L. N. Tolstoy should be considered characteristic of the understanding of Russian culture, as well as the fact that both thinkers belong to the direction of the “philosophy of pessimism” in Russia. Morphology in the understanding of V. N. Ilyin has the main goal of creating a universal methodology aimed at the study of cultural forms. In conclusion, the article compares the philosophical, historical and cultural ideas of V. N. Ilyin with the morphology of the art of A. G. Gabrichevsky, shows individual methods and ideas that unite two Russian scientists.
