Objective: To study morphological particularities of urinary bladder mucosa in females with acute phase of cystitis, to conduct morphometrical and statistical analysis of data received, to observe inflammatory changes of bladder mucosa in dynamics depending on treatment regimen. Materials: 62 females with chronic cystitis in acute phase bladder mucosa was biopsied during cystoscopy on first and 10th day. Bladder wall tissue samples received during cystoscopy were exposed to morphometric and statistic analysis. All patients were randomly divided into 3 groups. Group 1 patients took ciprofloxacin as monotherapy, group 2 patients combined ciprofloxacin and ozone therapy. Ozonized saline was injected intravenously and intravesicaly 5 - 7 times per course. Group 3 patients took genferon immunomodulator besides ciprofloxacin. First days biopsy materials had significant leucocytic infiltration in all groups. Results: Biopsy samples on day 10. Group 1: urothelium layers had different thickness, areas with unfinished urothelium epithelization were detected, necrosis focuses still preserved in stroma, inflammatory infiltrate was diffuse. Group 2: urothelium layers were equal, regions with angiogenesis and spread areas of formed connective tissues. In group 3 urothelium also covered all surface of the biopsy sample, but its layers had less thickness and extensive regions of lymphoid accumulations and diffuse fibrous proliferations were detected; also fragments of bladder mucosa with areas of transitional epithelium metaplasia into squamous epithelium. Conclusion: Ozone therapy and genferon in combination with ciprofloxacin maintain inflammatory reaction time decrease and seem to be more effective than monotherapy with ciprofloxacin.
