The article is devoted to the analisis of the motive of the moon and the dance under the moon as his variant. The first novel by Lawrence demonstrates a parallelism between natural phenomena and human condition. Literary communication with a drama Salome by Wilde and reminiscences to the graphic works of Aubrey Beardsley create a context of perception of the novel in the Art Nouveau at the XIX-XX centuries.
