The article attempts to describe the characteristic features of the situation of describing a growing up process as a journey on the basis of a comparative consideration of works about girls (young women) created by Russian and Hungarian authors in the middle of the 20th century. The significance of the tradition of depicting the growing up of a child (teenager, young man) as a physical movement through the “alien” space laid down by A. P. Chekhov in the novel “The Steppe”. The analysis of short novels and short stories by A. Platonov, L. Voronkova, M. Gergey is carried out on the basis of comparative historical and comparative typological methods, taking into account the mythopoetic approach. During the analysis, common features of the depicted situation are revealed: loss of the initial (home) equilibrium, physical movement through the “alien” space, testing by society, constructing a new character status, intellectual-personal reflection. Attention is paid to the features of the female version of the studied canon: perception of a house as a female system, the justification of close connection and continuity in the relationship between mother and daughter, the expansion of the functions of the elder sister and their displacement by maternal functions. The fundamental difference between the pathways of growing up as a teenage girl and as a boy is that the former one is closed in the house. The appeal to the short stories and short novels by A. Platonov, L. Voronkova, M. Gergey allows us to conclude about the commonality of the universal situation that is their essence, as well as the undoubted similarity of discursive organization and narrative techniques.
