Background. There are many data about MRI indications of brain abnormalities. Their nature is unknown. Materials and methods. 62 patients with attack-like schizophrenia (F20.01, F20.02 and F20.03 by ICD-10) were examined using structural MRI with vascular regime. The aim of the investigation. The investigation was aimed to study brain pathology in schizophrenia and its pathogenesis. The results. All examined patients had MRI indications of brain abnormalities. Most often pathology of brain ventricular system and subarachnoid space was revealed. For the first time cerebrovascular abnormalities were detected, such as perivascular space dilation, vascular cysts, venous sinuses pathology and native abnormality of structure of brain arteries. The research found out the prevalence of cerebrovascular pathology. Conclusion. Revealed MRI parameters of brain abnormalities show complex functional and anatomic pathology of cerebrovascular system, connected with current neurodegenerative process and pathology of brain development. The connection of abnormal MRI parameters with forms of schizophrenia was described.
