The article is devoted to the problem of harmony study in the works of the celebrated XX century native composer Edison Denisov. The thesis brings into light the times of the composer's life and work. It was the time when different «rétro» tendencies prevailed in art, one of which was transformation of «style thinking» into «thinking with styles». The phenomenon, defined by A. Schnittke as polystylism, is regarded both as a conception type and a kind of composer technique. The overview of literature devoted to this problem allows defining methodological principles of studying harmony in style diversity environment. In the composer's works analysis the intonation approach is also emphasized.
