In his symbolist lyrics Hugo von Hofmannsthal drew on the rich experience of the French symbolists and of Paul Verlaine, whose poetry he loved and whose intermedial search he continued in German in his poem "Vorfruhling". The "Music of Verse" is created by Hofmannsthal in what is ostensibly a natural sketch with a clear rhythm and full rhyme, its object of depiction being a mysterious spring wind existing only as music possessed of human appearance and magical features, which creates a "scintillation of senses" typical of symbolism.
