This article analyzes the use of musical metaphors in the works of Dina Rubina. The authors abundant use of a variety of musical terms in a figurative sense and her special predilection for them may be explained by her former profession as a musician. The article describes some musical metaphors that stem from the reinterpretation of the names of musical instruments and the peculiarities of sound. A significant number of special musical terms are also subject to metaphorization (e.g., arpeggio, diminuendo, crescendo, cadence). Analysis of this material leads us to conclude that Rubina significantly expands the metaphorical field of «music» by including special terms in it. This enrichment of the metaphorical system of the language reveals new possibilities for the figurative reinterpretation of lexical units and terms.
