N. Leskov and P. Florensky: the sense of iconostasis

The article deals with the first comparative analysis of the cycle “Righteous men” by N.S. Leskov and the work “Iconostasis” by P.A. Florensky. There is stated that the author of the XIX century inherits the poetics of the iconic image implementing the principle of “chancel screen” in his fiction constructions. “Righteous men” are the “iconostasis of the Russian Saints” that corresponds to the writer’s conception stated in the introduction to the cycle. Leskov prevents those discoveries in the sphere of the icons’ aesthetics that Florensky will make in the work “Iconostasis”.
