This article is the first part of the author's study of the interpretation of ethnicity. The object of study is ethnic identity, which is considered by the author from the position of a constructivist approach, but based on primordialist categories, including territory, language, origin of the community and its culture. The article reveals a modern scientific discussion devoted to the clash of primordialist and constructivist approaches and states the existing demand in modern anthropology for the creation of a hybrid concept of the interpretation of ethnicity. In general, the article presents an ideological platform, on the base of which in the second part of the article the author presents his own approach within the framework of such categories as historical memory and cultural and historical heritage as a factor of ethnogenesis influencing group mobilization and the acquisition of self-perception of an ethnos by an ethnic group, and then an ethnocultural nation.
