National-Russian bilingualism in the republics of Southern Siberia: age specificity

The article studies the age specificity of the development of national-Russian bilingualism among rural residents of the republics of Southern Siberia at the beginning of the 21st century based on the results of modern sociolinguistic surveys. We have established the predominance of positive attitudes to the recognition of ethnic languages (the second state languages of the republics) as mother tongues in all age groups. A higher level of language competence in the native language is characteristic of the older groups of Altai and Khakass respondents, which is inferior to the middle age group of Tuvan respondents. Strengthening of the subtractive type of bilingualism led to the intensification of the use of Russian not only in the external, but also in the internal circle of communication with the highest rates in the Republic of Khakassia.
