The article is devoted to the analysis of the specifics of the national ballet of China that developed in the second half of the XX century. As a work that played a key role in the formation of the Chinese ballet school, the play «Red Women’s Squad» (1965) is considered. The art of ballet, which originated in the Western cultural tradition, was first presented in China at the beginning of the twentieth century. The formation of its own ballet school took several decades, during which there was a process of adaptation of the western principles and norms of choreographic creativity and their synthesis with the traditions of Chinese folk dance. The productions of the first professional troupe «National Ballet of China», created in 1959, «Red Women’s Squad», «Gray haired Girl», «Beautiful Fish» demonstrate a unique combination of national and European traditions.
