Fine as a punishment in present-day economic realities

The article presents the author's arguments regarding the prospects for the infliction of criminal punishment in the form of a fine and its limits in the modern era, characterized by the dominance of market relations in public life with rapid changes in the economy of the state. The conclusions and proposals are formulated on the basis of the analysis of statistical data reflecting certain socio-economic indicators in the Russian state, provided by the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation, as well as taking into account official judicial statistics. The research is based on statistical and historical methods, as well as methods of comparison, generalization, and forecasting. As a result of studying certain aspects of the problems under consideration, the author comes to the conclusion that, in the current socio-economic processes, the infliction of punishment in the form of a fine is relevant, but can be implemented effectively only with appropriate changes in criminal legislation regarding the mechanism for calculating the amount of the fine.
