Violation of coherence in the structure of English artistic text

The article identifies the textual coherence in artistic text. The relevance of this topic is due to the lack of study on the means of delinearization of the structure of English artistic text. Semantic-syntactic textual connections are considered in the light of M. Ya. Blokh's dicteme theory of text. According to this theory, the connection between sentences in an unfolding text is achieved through a unified theme, which is realized through a "dicteme". Analysis of practical material proves that dictemic connections can be intentionally violated to attract the reader's attention. As a result of the research, it has been established that expressive means of violating coherence are realized through phenomena such as precedent text, parceling, rhetorical question, reference disruption, parenthetical constructions, and graphones. Based on the functions of textual coherence, we conclude that its violations become a stable stylistic device that influences the reader's perception of the artistic text.
