Scientific activity and the lost common sense: in search of adequate response to new threat

A relative quick transition from globalization to post-globalization raises a lot of challenges for all spheres of societal development, including science. A qualitative analysis of two foreign cases shows how the attempts of solution of some really urgent problems raise similarly or even more significant threats. In one case, it is told about struggling with the so-called “predatory” journals, which is done so fanatically that raises the question of discrimination by national criterion. In the other case, a logical interest of scientists into the problem of gender equity stimulates development of the utilitarian treatment of women due to the narrowness of thinking, which can also be judged as discrimination. In the both cases, there is loss of common sense in the scientific activity. Several recommendations are proposed as adequate response to this threat, including posing strict reference points by the state, increase in the humanitarian component in the education of young scientists, and cultivation of traditional and family-based values.
