The article attempts to solve the problem of revealing the significance of theoretical and practical contributions to pedagogical science and educational practice of regional education figures on the example of one of the prominent Russian teachers of the second half of the XIX - first quarter of the XX centuries. Alexander Alekseevich Krasev (1844-1921). The purpose of the article is to assess his scientific and practical heritage and contribution to the development of education in the Russian province, using the example of Simbirsk and Vyatka provinces. Regional and axiological approaches, comparative and comparative method and method of retrospective analysis were used in the work. The practical pedagogical activity of A. A. Krasev in connection with the preparation for the World Exhibition in Paris (1900) is characterized. The exhibition ended with the triumph of Vyatka education and the award of gold medals to A. A. Krasev himself and the educational institutions subordinate to him. The analysis of the scientific and journalistic works of A. A. Krasev, which at one time became a notable event in Russian pedagogical science, is carried out. The conclusion is made about the significance of his scientific and theoretical heritage; Krasev is characterized as one of the prominent theoretical teachers of his time. A.A. Krasev is also given credit as the head of Vyatka education in 1888-1902. It was during his time as director of public schools in the Vyatka province that the number of students and the number of schools increased dramatically.
