Some Aspects of Young People’s Historical Memory of the Great Patriotic War (Case Study of the Chechen Republic)

This article focuses on certain aspects of the historical memory of young people in the Chechen Republic regarding the Great Patriotic War. For this purpose, the results of an empirical project implemented through a semi-standardized interview were used. Based on the results of the work, the most significant factors influencing the formation of the historical memory of students at the present time (teaching history in educational institutions, commemorative practices, online content about the events of the Great Patriotic War, the annual celebration of Victory Day) have been identified. The article also examines the preferred sources of information about battles on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War for students at higher educational institutions in the Chechen Republic, with educational resources and online platforms being the preferred sources. It is emphasized that the vast majority of the representatives of the student community who participated in the study consider themselves patriots of the country, which indicates the high stability of the Russian identity. At the same time, gaps in students' knowledge of historical events and national heroes of the Great Patriotic War have been identified, which requires intensified efforts to popularize information about the heroic past of the republic and the country as a whole.
