The article shows some aspects of modeling and creating the innovation-oriented space of continuing vocational education of professional educational institution exemplified by a military university. It describes the processes of innovative development of military university and the creation of poly-oriented innovation space. The paper reveals the importance of teacher’s and military student’s readiness for innovation activities. The author proposes an original approach to the definition of the innovation-oriented space. The innovative projects implemented at the military university are reviewed as the system-related promising pedagogical innovations which had a positive impact on the development of innovation-oriented space of continuing vocational education at the regional level and the level of the military university. Besides, the article reviews the regional innovation-oriented space created as a federal experiment involving a number of professional educational institutions which implied the modeling of the innovation-oriented space of continuing vocational education at the military university. The paper emphasizes such factors of creating the innovation-oriented space of continuing vocational education as the level of formation of the teacher’s innovation competence and the student’s competence research. The study notes the teaching materials aimed at the formation of military students’ research competence that are developed and tested by the author.
