Some specific features of English legal texts

This article deals with such a specific feature of legal language as semantic diffusion, referential imprecision. The author holds the opinion that semantic diffusion occurs due to the fact that lexemes with the definite range of meanings in General English become imprecise, indeterminate being used in Legal English. The increase in number of referents in the process of creating a rule of law is caused by the attempts of law-makers to make this rule of law «all-inclussive», applicable to all the purposes.
