Based on the new author’s interpretation of the 1558 document, the article presents a new version of the replacement of Bishop Makariy (Tuchapsky), the first in time bishop of Lvov, by Bishop Arseny (Balaban). It is suggested that Bishop Macariy did not die in 1548-1549, as previously believed, but was displaced from the Lvov episcopal see, retaining the status of vicar bishop under the Metropolitan of Kyev, Galicia and All Rus’. It is assumed that later, in 1558, Bishop Macariy, in response to his request, received Turov and Pinsk See from King Sigismund II Augustus. The reasons for the alleged displacement of Bishop Makarios (Tuchapsky) from Lvov See are analyzed.
